Job description

About the Role:

Due to our ongoing success, we are looking for a Seismic Engineer to join our Christchurch team.

Reporting to the Seismic Services Team Lead in Christchurch, the Seismic Engineer will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Lead and produce seismic design and documentation for non-structural building services across small, medium and large multi-discipline projects.

  • Design seismic restraints for mechanical (HVAC), electrical, hydraulic, fire sprinkler systems, suspended ceilings, and non-structural partition walls in accordance with relevant New Zealand Standards.

  • Undertake construction monitoring, site inspections and provide technical support during construction.

  • Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, building services consultants, clients,contractors, project managers to ensure practical, buildable seismic restraint solutions.

  • Support QA processes, design reviews, and continuous improvement of our delivery methods.

Candidate profile

About You:

  • You have at least 3+ years’ experience in seismic restraint design of non-structural building components in NZ (consultancy, or contractor-side experience preferred).
  • Knowledge of NZS 4219:2009,NZS1170.5, NZS 4541:2020, AS/NZS 2785:2020, AS/NZS 4600:2018, and associated compliance standards.
  •  Understanding of coordination requirements between building services and structure.
  • Proficiency with relevant seismic engineering and drafting software; Revit experience a bonus
  • You are a practical problem-solver, clear communicator, and team player who focuses on buildable, real-world outcomes
  • You take professional pride in the quality of your work and are always open to new ways of doing things, especially if it results in efficiency gains or service improvements.
