Planned to connect with the Hunter Terrace redevelopment, farmers’ market and future Ōpāwaho River Route cycleway. The South Library and Service Centre building was badly damaged in the 2010/2011 earthquakes. Temporary strengthening made the facility safe to occupy, but it still had to be repaired or rebuilt.
The decision was made to retain the rough footprint and the existing floor slab. New services, clever temperature control, sustainable energy sources were key features. The civil team made the entrance transitions and way finding obvious and effective.
TMCo won this bid, the last of Christchurch City Council’s post-quake capital projects, on non-price attributes, demonstrating success in delivering complex projects on time and in budget, with strong sustainability credentials – critical to CCC developments.
Stakeholder Success. Our team provided complex ideas in a simple and concise manner, allowing quick acceptance from the community and buy-in from the Council.
Sustainability. TMCo’s extensive modelling on energy, materials, carbon resulted in a building that reduced the carbon footprint whilst sitting within the tight budget.
