The new Woolston Community Library is one of the last Council community facilities to be rebuilt following the 2010/2011 earthquakes.
Woolston Library was a new build project that required the design of a small-scale mixed-use community space. The building design comprises three main areas: an outdoor courtyard, the library, and the community hall. The facility also includes a small meeting room, public toilets, and car parking. An existing driveway running the length of the building was repurposed into a pedestrian laneway connecting Ferry Road to the upgraded car park.
Woolston Community Library is a small scale community space that is a focal point for the people of Woolston. The TMCo engineering team design team who delivered that particular programme of work with Christchurch City Council, will also lead the delivery of this project.
This project had a focus on stakeholder engagement and creating a representative space that shares the narrative and vernacular of the communities they serve. Story telling is important in creating connectivity to the industrial history of the area and those who continue their trade across the Canterbury region. Both projects also required innovative thinking and clever design to support excellent design outcomes whilst remaining within budgetary expectations.
